The Channel Shore tells the story of the people of 'the shore', a small fictional rural community along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia which closely resembles Bruce's childhood home on Chedabucto Bay. He weaves a moving and well-grounded account of rural life, the opportunities, relationships and conflicts in the community in the aftermath of the First World War.
